阆中古城位于四川盆地东北缘、嘉陵江中游，阆中古城“5A”景区总面积达4.59平方公里，古城核心区域2平方公里。截至2015年，古城已有2300多年的建城历史，为古代巴国蜀国军事重镇。阆中古城风水文化独具特色，其山川形势独特，山水城融为一体。其城市选址是按照中国古代风水学的理论为指导选择的，非常符合“地理四“科”即“龙”、“砂”、“穴”、“水”的意象。

首先从状元牌坊进入古城的核心区域，每条街道都充满了古典的气息，这里的特产有保宁醋、保宁酒、张飞牛肉和保宁白糖蒸馍等，登上中天楼，在楼上远眺，远处可见锦屏山和白塔山，现代建筑与古代建筑交相辉映，嘉陵江环绕其外，坐上游船看山观水赏风景，别具特色。

锦屏山，古称阆山，有“天下第一江山”之誉。因“花木错杂似锦，两峰连列如屏”，故人们通常都叫锦屏山，山顶的观景台是俯瞰阆中全城的绝佳位置。

白塔山，山上的白塔建于明代末期，共十三层，高二十九米，外十二层，内六层并有螺旋梯道九十一级供人登临绕窗远眺，以便从各个不同角度观览风景，特别是夜晚降临，华灯初上，从山顶上看阆城山水风景真是美轮美奂。1号桥、2号桥、3号桥的壮丽身影映入江中。

滕王阁，位于阆中城北玉台山半腰，现滕王阁景区内。唐滕王元婴镇守阆中时所建，同时建有玉台观，清以来合称滕王阁。从广场向上攀爬陡峭的上山石阶梯直至山顶小凉亭，每一小段都有风景。

天宫院，位于阆中城南20千米的天宫乡。阆中天文文化深厚，唐代天文学家袁天罡、李淳风晚年先后来阆定居，在这里择地观天，著书立说，死后也都埋葬在这里，天宫院为纪念他们而建。这边由于距离城区较远，游客数量相比之下确实少些，但游过之后绝不后悔。
